This protected historical building is one of the few remaining structures in the area between the Federal Ministry of Finance, Leipziger Platz, and the Brandenburg Gate. Inside, you’ll find preserved industrial design blended with elements of Italian restaurant culture. At the core of Ristorante Essenza on Leipziger Strasse are the open kitchen and wine bar, offering an exquisite selection of Italian and European wines.

HISTORY

 About a century ago, Leipziger Strasse was a quiet residential street. However, with the construction of the Wertheim department store, it rapidly transformed into a bustling commercial and trade center. Between 1892 and 1894, Leipziger Strasse 125 was built in the Neo-Renaissance style as an extension of the railway office. In 1937, the building came under the ownership of the Ministry of Transportation of the Reich. Until 1990, it served as the headquarters of the East German Railways’ Main Administration. From 2004, the building had a new role as a gallery and event venue.

Extensive restoration work was carried out by HGHI between 2013 and 2014. The historic sandstone facade was largely preserved, as were the impressive staircase and a vintage document elevator. Thus, Leipziger Strasse 125 seamlessly combines history and modernity in a truly unique manner.
